You've also got a good ear for music, that's a wicked selection mate!!  As you can see where new music is concerned, getting the content to the masses is the hard bit. Very few people can be arsed to seek good music as they just want it to come to them and if it doesn't, they'll just accept what ever kind of music does ie: Radio 1, Galaxy or MTV Base!!
 
The thirst for good new underground Soul music in Manchester has never been the same since Soul Nation ended in the late 90's!! Mike Stephens is always stressed because he can't play the new music that he wants to play when he's gigging, it's a lot easier to break new tracks via radio than in a night club.
 
What's the solution? Do as I do people.......listen to a track when you're out and if it's good, dance and let the DJ know he's played a good track, if it's bad bring some rotting fruit and veg with you and exercise your democratic right to lob them at him/her! *LOL* Tongue

Yeah my biggest gripe with the current scene are djs especially the bigger names playing the same old warn out classics that we all know, with very few djs willing to take a chance at breaking some lesser known new or old tunes to the crowds, maybe its not so much the djs fault as the expectations of the crowd especially on revival / classic soul / rnb nights, when a dj plays a tune the crowd are not familiar with the floor empties even if its good, to get them back dancing they have to play something more familiar.

Remember back in the days when these now classic tunes were first broke by djs, some actually cleared the floor on first play apparently, reading info from book "A DJ Saved My Life" by Bill Brewster, only with sheer persistance & some savvy mixing by the dj did the crowds start warming to them, now these tunes have become classics over time, with certain djs known for breaking certain tunes first or having a different style to the next dj, unlike today where so many djs are carbon copies of each other, playing the same tunes, usually what they get sent thru from the big labels, the old payola thing, if a dj does not promote the music such as what Sony sends, with little or no feedback, then the label ceases to keep the dj in the loop of other current releases, it all becomes very formulaic as the dj can become dependant on freebies, thats why RnB became very formulaic from the mid 90s onwards as major labels like Sony muscled in on the RnB / Hip Hop genres getting played on the radio, mtv & in the clubs
